SEDS Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 18, 2026

SEDS (Southeast Dive Sites) is a free app for checking dive conditions and finding dive buddies. It is run by New England Dive Sites LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect and why.

SEDS is one of three sister apps run by the same company, with NEDS (New England Dive Sites) and MADS (Mid-Atlantic Dive Sites). All three share one account system, so one sign-in works in each, and your profile, dive logs, follows and posts are the same in all of them. This policy covers all three.

What we collect

Data When Why
Name and email from Apple or Google, or the email and name you enter When you sign in To create your account. Other divers see only your first name and last initial. Your email is never shown.
Profile details you add (home town, certification) When you edit your profile Shown to help other divers decide who to dive with.
Dives, group dives, replies and reports you post, and dives you join When you post, reply or tap "I'll meet you there" Shown to everyone using SEDS with your first name and last initial. The person who posted a dive is notified when you join or reply.
Dive logs and photos you add, including optional details (exposure suit, weight, air used, surge and current, dive type and marine life seen) When you log a dive Shared dives (the default) are shown to everyone using SEDS with your first name and last initial. Dives you mark "just for me" are visible only to you. Photos are resized on your phone and their location data is removed before upload.
Site ratings and reviews When you rate a site (0 to 5 stars) or write a review on a dive log Shown on the site's page with your first name and last initial. Each site's average rating and number of ratings are shown to everyone. Ratings on dives marked "just for me" are not shown and don't count toward the average.
Favorite sites and blocked users When you star a site or block To personalize the app and send alerts.
Divers you follow When you tap Follow To send you an alert when they post a dive. Your follow list is private: nobody else can see who you follow.
Buddies you tag on a dive log ("Dove with") When you save a log Shown on that log. Only people you planned that dive with in SEDS can be tagged. A tagged buddy can confirm they dove with you; their confirmation is shown on the log, and they can undo it anytime.
Season stats Worked out from your shared dive logs Your number of shared dives, sites, streak and badges are shown on your diver page, and divers with the most shared dives this year are shown on the leaderboard, with first name and last initial. Dives marked "just for me" never count.
Reports you file about posts or people When you tap Report So we can review them and remove content that breaks the rules.
Push notification token If you allow notifications To send dive alerts you've turned on.
Anonymous usage count Once a day when you open the app A random ID created on your phone (not linked to your name, email or account) and the date, so we know how many people use SEDS.
Approximate location Only if you allow it (for "Near me", "Use GPS" in Plan a dive, or the welcome screen) To rank dive sites by drive time. Your last position is kept on your phone for a faster start and is never sent to SEDS.

You can browse the app without an account; nothing about you is collected when you do.

Sponsors

The home screen may show labeled sponsor cards from local dive businesses. Showing them uses no tracking and shares nothing about you with the sponsor. If you tap one, it opens the sponsor's website, where their own privacy policy applies.

Tips

If you tap "Chip in to keep it running" at the bottom of a screen, Ko-fi handles the payment on its own website under its own privacy policy. SEDS never sees your card details.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers.
  • We don't track you across other apps or websites.

Where it's stored

Account data and posts are stored with our database provider, Supabase, in the United States. Forecast data comes from the National Weather Service and NOAA.

Your choices

  • Edit your profile or delete any post at any time.
  • Turn alerts on or off in your profile.
  • Unfollow anyone from their diver page, and mark any dive log "just for me" to keep it off your public stats.
  • Delete your account in the app (Profile > Delete my account). This permanently removes your profile, dives, replies, joins, reports, dive logs and photos, favorite sites and follows.
